This painting of a large but lovable dog belonging to a friend was completely sketched with a single brush on a canvas with no preliminary sketch or drawing of any kind. I use 8 oil colors, and when the painting is sufficiently dry to the touch, I overpaint details and accents using metallic paints. These colors create a shimming surface and a depth that changes color from your point of view.
