Pelican Pose

Watching the pelicans in our new home here in Vero Beach, FL is a constant pleasure. I really loved this pose; she looked so regal. I decided to do this in watercolor on cotton rag paper. Unlike many of my watercolors, I painted the pelican 1st before deciding on the background. After a few days, I decided to incorporate palm fronds as a background, to help with both habitat and to not distract from the bird.
